A Sudbury Christmas Carol

December 14

A Sudbury Christmas Carol

Find out how the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a Northern Ontario banker, made its way to Charles Dickens in England.
The cast is ready to transport its audience to a time in the 1800s when Sudbury’s own Ebenezer Scrooge was the town’s most miserable miser.

“A Sudbury Christmas Carol” is a staged radio play of the Dickens classic, adapted by Judi Straughan, true to the story of the ghosts but with a delightful Sudbury twist.

In the 1800s, young Pierre from northern Ontario is visiting Montreal with this father who is tasked with erecting a large Christmas tree for the city. Pierre soon finds himself telling a tall tale to a gentleman named Charles Dickens. Trying to impress Dickens, Pierre tells a scary story about a cold-hearted miser who lives in his own hometown

The tale is filled with ghosts and time travel and sets the stage for one of the most iconic stories of the last century.

The cast includes CBC Radio-Canada’s Dan Aubin, actor/writer Matthew Heiti, CBC Radio’s Warren Schlote, former CBC radio host Peter Williams, Le Loup radio host Eric Lapalme, actor/singer Anita Ansamaa, sudbury.com’s managing editor Mark Gentili and many more, with Scrooge’s nephew played by MPP Jamie West.

This one-time-only event Dec 14 at 2 pm in the Sheridan Auditorium of Sudbury Secondary School is in support of CKLU campus and community radio and the Sudbury Food bank. The Rotary Club of Sudbury is partnering with CKLU.

Tickets are $25 and available online at cklu.ca or in person at A&J Home Hardware on Bouchard Street or at Jett Landry Music (cash only) on Lasalle Boulevard.
