Gallery 6500 New Exhibition: Pretty Pictures, Passionate Perspectives
Gallery 6500’s newest exhibit is set to open this Sunday. Pretty Pictures, Passionate Perspectives, a showcase of works from the late Oryst Sawchuk will be on display from December 15-March 15. Gallery 6500 is located within the United Steelworkers Hall and Conference Centre at 66 Brady Street. Please join us for the opening on Sunday, December 15 from 1-4 p.m.
The late artist Oryst Sawchuk was best known for his urban streetscapes . . . many captured on a new mural on Elgin St. He painted many pretty pictures but he always wanted his art to say something. Sometimes the message was about preserving heritage buildings. Other times, he spoke to social justice issues such as poverty, work safety, the environment and Indigenous restitution. Oryst was one of the founders of Gallery 6500, Where Art Matters.
The U.S.W. Centre is open weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. On weekends if there is an event taking place in the convention centre, the main doors will be open, and anyone wishing to see the exhibit is able to access the Gallery. This exhibiton will be on display though March 15, 2020.
