Greetings from Perivale Gallery on beautiful Manitoulin Island!

Our 3 day weekend workshops run from 9:30 – 3:30 and are held at the Spring Bay Community Centre in Spring Bay, right in the centre of Manitoulin Island.

2018 Workshop Descriptions:

Shedding Light on Landscapes June 1, 2, 3 with Barry Bowerman
Bring ideas for a subject, photos or even a work in progress. We will work to
enhance the light effects and cover basic colour theory as it applies to your
projects. All media and levels are welcome. Creativity will abound and lots will be
Intuitive Watercolour: Luxurious Colour & Dramatic Shapes June 8, 9, 10
with Ruth Reid
We’ll explore the thinking process needed to bring drama to your paintings. Bring
your photo references, and be prepared to ignore them! You will develop new ways
to approach subject matter, using watercolours, acrylic inks and oil pastels. Got
ideas? Take them to the limit! All levels.
Wheale’s Approach to Painting June 22, 23, 24 with Ivan Wheale
Choose your medium and explore the creative process, how we see what is and
what may be. Bring ideas, reference materials and an open mind. All levels.
Go Big or Go HomeJuly 6, 7, 8 with Cathy Boyd
Let loose, use big brushes, lots of paint and work quickly! If you have the desire to
paint large and with lots of energy, this workshop will teach you how to do just that!
Canvas sizes like 24 x 24 or larger and 24 x 36 or larger are ideal! Oils or acrylics,
all levels. A stand up easel is required.
Paint Lovely, Loose & Lively Landscapes July 13, 14, 15 with Andrew
Paint Like Tom Thomson & the Group of Seven July 20, 21, 22 with Andrew
Learn how Tom Thomson & the Group of Seven painted the northern landscape
using colour, shape, style & concepts, pushing to find your own creative voice. You
will leave with a few finished masterpieces! Choice of medium. All levels.
Magical Alcohol Ink August 3, 4, 5 with Brigitte Bere
Neither reference photos nor ideas are required! An open mind is essential. Yupo is
your painting surface. 3 colours of Alcohol ink plus rubbing alcohol (99%) is the
medium. Whatever happens at the beginning, the result could be a fantastic
landscape, abstract work, figurative or still life. Be amazed by the possibilities you
discover. All levels.
Colour is the Plaything August 10,11, 12 with Mark Hope
Ever wondered what a split complementary colour theme was? Always got confused
on analogous versus complementary? Once understood, colour is the plaything for
artists! Give your paintings a fresh look and vibrancy while expanding your
understanding of colour. Oil or acrylic. All levels welcome
Painting Shimmery Water: Get your sparkle on ! August 17, 18, 19
with Lisa Free
Learn how to create layers of depth with colour to achieve a luminous quality to

In The Style Of … September 7, 8, 9 with Linda Finn
What defines an artist’s style? Each day will start with a slide show and discussion
of a different artist’s work. After a short demo of techniques, we will recreate her/his
style in watercolour and in the process, you may discover a new way of working.

3 day workshop fee: $185 (inc. HST) if you register before May 1st .  After May 1st the fee is $195 (inc. HST)  Registration is complete when payment is made.
