SUDBURY, ON – Jazz Sudbury has given the public an exclusive snapshot of the 10th anniversary festival. It looks like it is going to be an impressive year for Jazz in Sudbury! Canadian jazz icon Molly Johnson will be gracing the Jazz Sudbury Festival mainstage, Michael Kaeshammer will be returning after 10 years, and a fireworks display will light up the sky in celebration!
The10th anniversary cements the Jazz Sudbury Festival as a pillar of arts and culture in Sudbury. In its first year, the festival was a two-day event held on the grounds of Science North. Over 10 years, it has expanded into an annual five-day music and arts festival held at Grace Hartman Amphitheatre on the beautiful shores of Ramsey Lake. The 10th edition will feature local and national performers at eight unique downtown venues, and in a parade escorted by a Dixieland Jazz Band.
Jazz Sudbury continues to drive-forward in 2018, doubling its investment into the artistic budget, and presenting internationally acclaimed musicians, including acts that push the boundaries, frequently crossing over into other genres. Stay tuned for more information at the line-up announcement on June 20th!
Michael Kaeshammer will be returning to the mainstage, headlining on Saturday, September 8th. He is a Jazz Sudbury Festival veteran, having headlined the first ever festival in 2009. Michael was the recipient of the “Jazz Artist of the Year” award at the 2017 WMCA’s. His latest album Something New illustrates in a compelling and entertaining fashion, Michael Kaeshammer is an artist in complete control of his sound and vision. Jazz Sudbury is excited to welcome this boogie-woogie pianist back to its stage.
Multi-Juno award winner and Order of Canada recipient, Molly Johnson, will also be taking the Jazz Sudbury main-stage. With her newly released album, Meaning to Tell Ya, her signature performance is sure to be an unforgettable experience. Molly’s voice evokes the aura of dark, smoky night clubs of a bygone era. It speaks to an emotional depth that few vocalists in any genre ever reach. MOLLY JOHNSON QUOTE. Molly will also be playing an intimate performance at the Sudbury Theatre Centre’s Cabaret during the much loved and highly anticipated Jazzwalk event held on Saturday afternoon. Ms. Johnson will be travelling with jazz virtuosos Mike Downes, and Robi Botos.
As no celebration is complete without fireworks, attendees can expect the colourful displays to light up the night once during the weekend of September 7th-8th. Early bird ticket pricing is in effect until June 24th. Tickets are available at Jett Landry Music (1119 Lasalle), A&J Home Hardware (469 Bouchard), Kuppajo Espresso Bar (109 Larch), and www.jazzsudbury.com
