Jerry Leger & The Situation, Dec. 9th: The Power of a Great Song
December 9, 2017
Sudbury’s Northern Lights Festival Boréal has been presenting a series of dynamic live shows this year, with no plan of stopping anytime soon. On December 9th, 2017, NLFB will present Jerry Leger & The Situation, live in concert at The Townhouse Tavern (Elgin St.). Jerry Leger is a dynamic singer-songwriter, who has released 10 albums since 2005, to much critical acclaim. His music touches on folk, rock, pop, and country, but is above all about the craft of writing a great song. He has made music with such artists as Serena Ryder and Michael Timmins (Cowboy Junkies). He has toured extensively with acts such as Ron Sexsmith, The Sadies, Jesse Winchester, Justin Townes Earle, and Doug Paisley, among others.
Produced by Michael Timmins, Leger’s most recent album Nonsense & Heartache expresses 2 sides of his musical personality. The album contains two distinct (yet complementary) sets of songs, bringing together raw, confessional balladry and primal rock n’ roll. Leger describes the album himself by saying, “Mike came up with the idea of doing a double album, but it’s really two different records (Nonsense and Heartache) packaged into one. He had the idea to record one album as electric, bluesy, dirty rock and roll…The other album was intended to be more of a singer/songwriter record with me on acoustic guitar or piano…” Through persistence and patience, Jerry Leger has been finding his own home within the Canadian music scene, earning his place in the pantheon of this country’s great singer/songwriters. Nonsense And Heartache brings him one very significant step closer.
Sudbury’s own Barry Miles will open up the show, perhaps best known as a key member of Sudbury’s bluegrass/outlaw country group Murder Murder. His solo material combines sparse Americana-folk with vivid storytelling. Miles and his band The Congregation were performers at this past summer’s Northern Lights Festival Boréal.
Enjoy a super-cool night of great music, Saturday, December 9th, 2017, at The Townehouse Tavern (Elgin St.). Doors are at 10pm, and the show starts at roughly 10:30pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and are available at www.nlfb.ca/jerryleger, and at The Townehouse Tavern. Show format is a mix of standing and seating, club-style.
